TO TITHE OR NOT TO TITHE?
It has often been said that tithing falls under the law of the Old Testament and we therefore do not need to tithe any more. But the truth is that tithing is God’s way to open His promises of blessings over us. Tithing is an opportunity for you to be blessed.
It is a spiritual law that when we obey everything that God has commanded in the bible, then we step into the blessings of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob as set out in Deuteronomy 28. You will be blessed in your health, your income, work, relationships, etc.
Understanding the concept of tithing can unlock a key for spiritual growth and blessings in your life. Tithing can be a source of joy and freedom – but, tithing is also a commonly misunderstood concept. Confusion on the subject can lead to mistrust of the church or the Pastor and can lead some to believe that the church only cares about their money.
In the Old Testament we have Malachi 3:10-12 (TLV) – 10 Bring the whole tithe into the storehouse. Then there will be food in My House. Now test Me in this”—says Adonai-Tzva’ot—“if I will not open for you the windows of heaven, and pour out blessing for you, until no one is without enough. 11 I will rebuke the devouring pest for you, so it will not destroy the fruit of your land, nor will your vine be barren in the field,” Adonai-Tzva’ot says. 12 “All the nations will call you blessed. For you will be a land of delight,” says Adonai-Tzva’ot.
In the New Testament the word “Tithing” is not used, however in 2 Corinthians 8:3 (TLV) 3 For I testify that according to their ability, and even beyond their ability, they gave of their own free will and in 2 Corinthians 9:6-7 6 The point is this: whoever sows sparingly shall also reap sparingly, and whoever sows bountifully shall also reap bountifully. 7 Let each one give as he has decided in his heart, not grudgingly or under compulsion—for God loves a cheerful giver.
Just looking at these verses one can clearly see that tithing is not only related to the Old Testament under the old law – we have all been instructed to give bountifully and to joyfully do so.
Through one act of obedience of tithing or sowing, God promises us these blessings.
- It enables you to prove your faith in God as your source;
- It enables you to prove God in your finances;
- God promises to open the windows of heaven upon you;
- God will pour out His blessings upon you;
- There shall not be room enough to receive the overflowing blessings;
- God will rebuke devourers for your sake;
- Devourers and parasites will not destroy your harvests;
- You will reap bountifully, you land will not be barren;
- All nations shall call you blessed; and
- You will be a land of delight.
- Every person that was in covenant with God and tithed 10 percent of their income back to God’s Kingdom, received land. This includes Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, Solomon, David, and this can include you as well. God tests your faith and your obedience.
It has never been God’s intention for us to labour and put away a little bit so we can survive in our old days. No, God’s intention for His children was always to be blessed bountiful, debt free and have abundance. John 10
:10 says that God came to give life, life in abundance. Everything we have, we own, our jobs, our health, it all belongs to God. By simply being obedient you give back to God a 10 percent of what He blessed you with. Through a simple act of obedience and discipline, by sowing a 10% of your full income before deductions, into the Ministry/church where you receive spiritual food, you will step and reap into the same bountiful blessings as above. Test God in this!
We have also seen that when being disobedient in this commandment, people open the door for satan and his demons to take control of our finances, even any part of our life’s and he can cause destruction. A Financial curse can come unto a family line of poverty because of this spiritual law that is not followed. Let us not give satan any legal right in our lives and repent from where you were disobedient, repent from your previous generations that also stole from God and let the new blessings on your generation start with YOU!
If you are considering giving for the first time, remember to give generously, consistently, and above all, joyfully.
May you be blessed abundantly in the name of Yeshua Hammasiach
