AM I LIVING UNDER A GENERATIONAL CURSE?
Many people today find themselves in unfortunate situations or unfortunate re-occurrences where they are being oppressed. This could be a family break-up or divorce, which was never planned. Some people struggle to fall pregnant, and others have miscarriages and early deaths in the family. Sometimes there is a re-occurrence of the same events in a family line for example, the grandmother had a few miscarriages and then her children also had miscarriages.
The same applies to suicide attempts, where a family member may have committed suicide or goes through divorce, that same sprit travels down the generational line and the same thing happens to another family member. There are people who struggle their whole life to keep jobs or to become financially independent and it may look like a curse. This cycle of unfortunate events can continue until someone stops it through deliverance and repentance. It is here where children of God start to ask the question if they may be living under a generational or bloodline curse.
The Word of God speaks about a generation that could be punished because of the iniquities that the fathers do:
Deuteronomy 5:9 (TLV) – “Do not bow down to them or worship them. For I, Adonai your God, am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers on the children and on the third and fourth generation of those who hate Me.”
Moses is repeating this in Numbers 14:18 (TLV) – ‘Adonai is slow to anger and abundant in lovingkindness, forgiving iniquity and transgression. Still, He does not leave the guilty unpunished, bringing the iniquity of the fathers upon the children to the third and fourth generations.’
What happens when bad behaviour of our parents repeats itself in our lives such as alcohol abuse, sexual abuse, depression, anxiety or mental diseases. All these are not what God intended for us to have. God’s intention for mankind was to be blessed, to be a companion for Him. But when Adam and Eve sinned, the first sign of a curse was borne.
A bloodline or generational curse, according to Exodus 28, is the consequences of sin. God tells us that if we obey Him, and His commandments, that all these blessings will follow us – “You will be blessed in the city, in your flock, in your womb, blessed in the produce of your soil, increase of your herds, your enemies will fall before you, your barns will be full, you will be blessed with land, illness will not come near you.”
But if we do not obey the word of the Lord, certain curses will come upon us and our generation. This includes illness, loss of your herds, loss of income, confusion and frustration, weakness, inflammation, no rain on your land, you will be defeated by your enemies, etc. We must realise that sin brings division between us and God and the consequence for sin can be a generational curse. It blocks your blessings. But God gave us the choice to choose between the blessing or the curse. What are you choosing today?
There are over 600 sins mentioned in the Bible but let’s look at a few common ones that can block your blessings and cause a bloodline curse.
1 Corinthians 6:9- 10 (TLV) – 9 Or don’t you know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Don’t be deceived! The sexually immoral, idolaters, adulterers, those who practice homosexuality, 10 thieves, the greedy, drunkards, slanderers, swindlers—none of these will inherit the kingdom of God.
Sin gives satan the legal right to attack us in various areas of our lives, including on the bloodline curses. We must also be careful not to sin ourselves as this could start new bloodline curses for your descendants.
1 John 3:9 (TLV) – “No one born of God practices sin, because God’s seed remains in him. He cannot sin, because he is born of God.”
Spirits that can travel down the bloodline includes, but is not limited to:
- Spirit of poverty – this spirit blocks you from making your business succeed and blocks an abundance in your finances
- Spirit of accidents -this spirit causes frequent accidents, car accidents, breaking of bones, etc.
- Spirit of divorce – this spirit causes you not to have successful relationships and ends up in continuous broken relationships and divorce
- Spirit of death – this spirit causes you to have death in everything, finances, illnesses, relationships and constant accidents
- Demons of lust such as Lillith – this spirit makes you lust after pornography and other woman
- Spirit of no identity – this spirit makes you feel that you do not belong anywhere; you have no identity; you do not know who you are and do not know where you are going.
- Spirit causing babies out of wedlock – constantly causing babies to be born out of wedlock down the bloodline.
- Spirit of addiction – causes you to have an addiction for pornography, smoking, drinking, drugs or even addiction to watch occult movies and games
- Spirit of adoption – this spirit causes one to constantly feel like the victim. You always blame others for your situation, you do not know where you are going or have no clear vision of the future and feel that you don’t know who you are.
HOW CAN THIS PATTERN OF GENERATIONAL CURSES BE BROKEN?
Many people today believe that if you accept Christ as your saviour, this breaks the generational curse because automatically, we are under a new covenant. If this is true, then why are there so many children of God suffering today under oppression, financial problems, relationship problems, illnesses, etc? The good news is that there is deliverance for those who repent, God is a loving kind God, who sent His own son to become man, and die on the cross, so that you can live and become part of the Kingdom of God, a child of the God Most High.
Hebrews 4:16 (TLV) – Therefore let us draw near to the throne of grace with boldness, so that we may receive mercy and find grace for help in time of need.
When you repent and accept Christ in your heart, your spirit is already filled with the Holy Spirit. But in our souls dimension, we may still have to deal with past hurts, past sins, demons that had access through sin or the family generation line and generational sins and curses that are still active.
Through true repentance and by living a life of sanctification, these generational curses can be broken, and you can be stepping into the blessings that God has intended for you as set out in Deuteronomy 28. Reflect on your family history and your own sins, seek deliverance, repent of all sins one by one and live a life of sanctification, so that you can start living in abundance that which God has intended for you.
